Special Education

To meet the needs of students with learning difficulties, a wide range of Special Education services are provided in Burns Avenue School. Those services include the following:

  • Inclusive classrooms
  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Counseling

The Special Education staff in Burns Avenue is committed to providing classified students with learning experiences that are directly aligned with each child’s Individualized Educational Program (IEP). Services are provided in both push-in and pull-out settings and teachers use a variety of manipulatives, leveled reading materials, and computer programs to foster skill development and communication skills. Student progress is also closely monitored throughout the year and parents receive Progress Reports each trimester. Annual reviews are also held at the end of each year so that parents and Special Education staff can discuss each child’s progress and make recommendations about services for the following school year.
