Lee Students Learn About Chinese Lunar New Year

First graders at Lee Avenue Elementary School in Hicksville recently welcomed a representative from the Long Island Children’s Museum for an engaging lesson on Chinese Lunar New Year traditions. Through the museum’s Lucky Fortune program, students explored festive customs and learned about the symbolism of the Lion Dance and capped off the afternoon by creating their own Lion Dance parade masks.

OCR students enjoy Supermarket Science Assembly

Old Country Road students in Hicksville were recently treated to a fun educational experience recently with the Supermarket Science assembly, a high-energy STEM show that blended science, humor, and hands-on learning into one thrilling performance. The assembly captivated students with stunts, hilarious antics, and a touch of magic, keeping them fully engaged from start to finish. Through experiments using everyday grocery store items, students explored the importance of observation, testing, and inquiry, essential tools for scientific discovery. The show left a lasting impression, turning ordinary pantry staples into sources of scientific wonder.

Students at Hicksville Middle School celebrated the success of their Holiday Food Drive with a memorable event that highlighted their efforts. From Dec. 10-19, the middle school community came together to collect food donations for those in need, ultimately gathering more than 500 boxes of food.

Lee students enjoy balloon fun and laughs

Third and fourth graders at Lee Avenue Elementary in Hicksville recently had a special assembly with Nick the “Balloonatic.” During his visit, Nick amazed students with his creative balloon designs, playful humor, and high energy performance. The room was filled with laughter as he transformed simple balloons into incredible shapes and characters, all while sharing messages about creativity and having fun.

Warm welcome to Hicksville Middle School

On Oct. 22, Hicksville Middle School hosted a special breakfast for new entrants into the district. Principal Benjamin Tangney welcomed the students to the cafeteria and highlighted some of the unique opportunities in the building. The experience gave students the chance to connect with other new students while realizing there are many other new faces in the building. Members of the school’s support staff were also on hand to help answer any questions and make a face-to-face connect with the new students.

The Hicksville High School Helping Hands Club recently donated $300 to the Hicksville Food Pantry. The funds were raised through several student led initiatives, including the sale of club apparel and after-school churro sales. BOE 2025-2026 Reorganization Meeting

On July 2, the Hicksville Public School District Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting. During the meeting, the Board voted to reappoint Annette Beiner to serve as President for the 2025-2026 school year. The Board also elected Linda Imbriale to serve as Vice President and Erin Guida to serve as Secretary for the 2025-2026 school year.
